I am thinking of moving to Poland, for good. Is this a good idea? What will I need to know first? Can I live good, on Social Security, and a small pension?
On one of my visit, I took a apartment in Warsaw, furnised, with everthing included, even phone, and cable, and it was at a low cost, could this have changed?
What information will I need, and where can I get any forms I may need for this move?

Why no input from anyone, what do you think? Can this work? Would you do this?

Hi Mike,
I was in Poland in 1972 and 1975.
My cousins say that there are a lot of goods on the shelves, but very hard to get the money to pay for them.
You have to be careful, because there are a lot of scams.
I would get someone I know and trust.
I know the politics have changed quite a bit lately, and I would just be careful -- look before you leap kind of thing.

Burt,

I was there a few times, and the things have changed for the better since 1989,last visit just a few years ago. Politics are better than here now.
I am still checking into this, and don't plan on a move until later this year, after checking more, with friends and family living there now.
Thank you for your input.
Go back now, and you will see the big differnce.

Yep.

I apologize for stating the obvious.

I just wanted to give you some kind of answer, 'cause you sounded a little desperate.

It can be done. You will have to go to the Government office in the woj where you
intend to live.

You will have to fill out:
1. Application, name, address, parents, passport entries and exits, why you want to live in Poland etc.
2. A statement you are not a criminal ( from the FBI)
3. Your latest SS statement as to the amount of money you get from them.
4. Birth Certificate
5. Marriage Certificate
6. Fingerprints. FBI
7. Family in Poland, Names etc.
8. All need to be in Polish and translated by a certified translator, cost in 2007 was 30 PLN per page or $10 dollars.
9. Two passport type photos.

Initially they give you a 'karta pobyta' for a year then for another year then three and after five you can apply for
citizenship.

Interesting. So, it doesn't sound as though it is THAT difficult of a process. While you are there and still on a karta pobyta, can you work?
