Hi everyone, I am new here and pardon me if this is the wrong place to post this but I couldn't find a place to say hello in the rest of the forums. I quite my job 5 months ago to look after our 2 daughters as we didn't want to send them to daycare which seemed to be the only option. So it's been a very different but surprisingly fulfilling time for me since as I have learning the ropes of juggling with housework among other things. My wife suggested these forums (the good part: she is not a member here LOL) and looking at things, I might find some company here. That's all about me for now. Hope to find friends and hope that men are allowed here! Cheers!

Topsyturvy,

Welcome. It is good to have more men's opinion and thoughts here on the topics. I admire your commitment to your daughters. We are here to help each other out. I am sure you will find various forums to post in and connect with others. Feel free to stop by the investing forum.

Welcome topsyturvy! I commend you on your choice to put your time to the most valuable use.

If I could afford to not work, I would do so, as I found more satisfying endeavors to engage in when I did not work. I definitely had more energy and personal satisfaction, and I think you will find the same as you care for your daughters. The women in my family chose to stay home to care for their children instead of working, and I think either parent staying home to raise young children is so much better for them than daycare.

Good luck to you, and feel free to post here any time. We like our male members, and there are several!
Hello and Welcome Topsyturvy! Thank you for posting! I think it is wonderful that you could make the choice to stay home with your daughters. Willful unemployment is a welcome topic here. Men are welcome too!

Sandra, Debbie and Corlia Wow! I thought I was going to be ignored as it was my first time on a forum but getting replies is so cool! Thanks so much for 'admiring' what I do. I honestly love staying home and don't mind the housework at all. Gives me plenty of time to do what I want, like writing. I am also a budding chef so will be sharing and looking for recipes among other things. cheers!

I love that term "willfully unemployed" as this perfectly states where I am, too. It is a choice. A good one. wink

My children are adults now but I still do a lot of care-taking of elders and a baby.

It's so funny how we let our careers define us. I read a quote that said, "You are not what you do for a living."

Keep on posting!

Thanks for thinking so Lori. i am surprised at the welcome I have got here. Still trying to take time out from my busy days doing housework to post more on here. Would love to know you better. Cheers!

Absolutely! There's a great crowd here to get to know. I've made some great, lifelong friends. smile

Also know that there are lots of lurkers who may not post but they read what you write so share on!

I'm also the Marriage and Dreams editor. It would be interesting to hear your take on being the house-husband. You're no doubt too busy to write an article but I invite you to do so and I'll be happy to post it for you on the Marriage site.
Awesome! Another cat lover! Cats rule! Okay, other animals are amazing as well, but CATS RuLE!!!!!
I agree that family is the most important think in life. I am glad for topsyturvy. It is so important for us to support people, whatever their situations and the decisions they have to make. It is great that this is such a forum--where people can feel free to express their concerns, their dreams, and their values without fear of being judged.
Hello Lori, I agree! We have to respect and appreciate that whatever others are going through, they are making the best decisions they can given their circumstances. We have to support each other and work in whatever way we can to make the path easier for others. Corlia

Thanks for the kind words Lori and Corlia! I am glad to have found so much support, I love being home except for the fact that I can't get any adult talk in the day. But I am sure the forum here is going to make up for that. Lori, I will be happy to write an article. I went on to the marriage site but couldn't find how to post an article (loved reading the ones that were there though!). Help on it woul dbe appreciated. And I also can't seem to send any private messages. Sorry but i'm a technotard!. Hoping to hear and share more soon..

LOL. Technotard. That's funny.

You can't post directly. You'll have to email your article to me first. marriage@bellaonline.com.

I know you're busy but you can always consider applying for an editorship with Bellaonline. That helps get your mind into an interest other than family, house and home!

Sounds like a good plan topsyturvy! Doing a little writing may be fun--although I know your life with your daughters is amazing too! javascript:%20void(0)

Hello Chan. I am very sorry, but I need to remove your post because it is considered spam. If you would like to send me an email with information on the company you work for, I will research it and review it for an article. Otherwise, I am sorry, but we cannot solicit through the forum.

Sincerely,

Hello Topsyturvy - AHA! Now that you are at home and not doing much (!teehee!) you can certainly get into container gardening alongside your cheffing and caring and housekeeping AND keeping- out-of-mischiefing. Growing children is one of the most awesome opportunities given to man. As Garfield said just breathe ... breathe ... breathe! Best of luck with your fine decisions, Lestie Container Garening Editor.

Hello Leslie,

I apologize for needing to delete these comments concerning this work-at-home post because it is soliciting. That said, I've invited the individual who posted the original message to send me info on the company. I'll investigate it and review it. I suspect that if it is legitimate, I'll hear back from the person who posted it soon. If not, it will probably go away. That said, I'm going to write my next article on finding good work at home jobs.

Hi there Chandan2001, yes, maybe central government will sort things out soon which will enable us to talk - otherwise just use containergardens@bellaonline.com to reach me, hopefully it will. Thanks Lestie

Hi Corlia, thanks for this info and of course you had to manage your site ... I look forward to reading your article. Bestest Lestie Container Gardening Editor.
Hi Lestie,

You're welcome. I always welcome anyone to contact me with ideas on working at home and such. Having known several folks who've been burned with work-at-home scams though, I'm a bit cautious. In general, it's a good idea to avoid work-at-home operations when:
1. They're vague. Legitimate businesses should have a clear online presence. They should also clearly state what they do. Look for an established corporate office address and phone number. Are they a member of a Better Business Bureau or Chamber of Commerce? Do an online search with their name followed by AND complaints OR scams. Check out the results carefully.
2. You can't find any reviews on them by other trusted websites.
3. They make promises that appear too good to be true.
4. They ask for money. Beware of any business that requires you to pay a fee to participate.

Best wishes,
Corlia Logsdon

Hello Corlia, I am semi-retired and busy enough in my day job, but I do have time early evenings etc. I used to be a recruiter and in HR and training, and am finding ways to reactivate those skills and use that experience to enhance my income. I have a couple of irons in the fire as they say, so hopefully that will work and I can develop the theme. Thank yuu for your advice - it will go a long way. Cheers, Lestie Container Gardening Editor

Hi Lestie,

Sounds like we have a lot in common--HR and gardening. You must be one busy lady! I'll definitely check out your container gardening articles. This year, come heck or high water, I am going to grow some veggies.

Corlia
I would also stop working if I could. It would be amazing to be able to choose what you do each and every day.

I would love to be retired but can't yet. I'm working on becoming my own boss. Not an easy process for sure.
