So many employers tell us to strive for excellence - well here is a thought...

Why? Excellence is a fixed point in time, a single accomplishment. Distinction means you're a step above the rest. You are the one and only. Distinction truly sets you apart from the rest. Strive for distinction in your work!

Interesting. I suppose also that once one has achieved excellence there is really nowhere to gobut down, whereas distinction may expand and build on itself.
