The Criterion Collection is releasing three new films from female directors this fall. On 9/19, Kelly Reichardt's "Certain Women" will be available. Adapted from the short stories of Maile Meloy, the film stars Laura Dern, Michelle Williams, and Kristen Stewart.

On 10/10, Polish director Agnieszka Smoczynska's "The Lure" is out. A genre mix of fairy tale, horror story, and musical, the film is described as a feminist twist on Hans Cristian Andersen's tale "The Little Mermaid".

On 11/14, Donna Deitch's indie feature from 1985, "Desert Hearts", will be released. The film stars Helen Shaver as a repressed college professor who becomes involved with a free spirit played by Patricia Charbonneau. I saw this in the 80s and would recommend it.
All Criterion Collection DVD's are 50% off during the month of November at Barnes & Noble. A great time to pick up these releases. "Cameraperson", Kirsten Johnson's meditation on life and cinematography, is available from Criterion if you missed it on PBS last month.
