It seems so strange to watch the trees greening, the rivers open and flowing ice-free, the sun shining bright well into the night ... and no tourists.

I do see a few RVs on the road, but every single one of them boasts Alaska plates. It seems locals like me are at least trying to make the best of an otherwise horrid situation and offering the few campgrounds that are open (so far) what business we can.

If nothing else, it’s allowing us a different view out our still mostly socially-isolating windows. It’s for the best, health wise, but I fear Alaska’s tourist and oil driven economy may not be able to recover from the double whammy.

With the AK/Canada borders still closed, and a 14-day quarantine in place for air travelers coming to the state - it’s eerily quiet here.
