February 22nd through March 8th are the dates to mark on your calendar if you'll be in south-central Alaska this month! Anchorage, Alaska, is celebrating getting past the hump of winter with it's annual city-wide Fur Rendezvous party! "Fur Rondy" is wildly unique, with a wide variety of daytime and nighttime activities for the young, young-at-heart, families and old coots as well. We've all pretty much got "cabin Fever" by late February, so any excuse for a party is welcome!

The party kicks off early on Friday night, February 21st, with the 2nd annual "Rondy Costume Crawl", where participants hit downtown Anchorage in their most outlandish costumes for an evening of comradery - with map in hand, those who find and visit 8 out of the 9 listed locations, getting their maps stamped, can win a Hilton Getaway for Two!

Over the following two weeks, the party continues daily (and really amps up on the weekends!) with such events as Alaska State Snow Sculpture Competition, Fireworks Extravaganza, the AK Trapper's Association Fur Auction, Native Alaskan Blanket Toss, Frostbite Footrace, the 30th annual Rondy Melodrama, World Champion Sled Dog Races, Running with the Reindeer, Outhouse Races and more! LOTS more!

There is also a great winter carnival going on daily throughout Fur Rondy for kids and adults alike, located near the Snow Sculpture competition. Many downtown stores, shops and restaurants offer Fur Rondy specials and welcome Rondy visitors to come in and warm up as needed. Anchorage offers a free downtown shuttle during Rondy to help folks get from location to location easily, too. This is a party you have got to experience for yourself - and winds up on Saturday, March 8th, with the ceremonial start of the world famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race right on 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage!
