Hi Everyone, here's the next Silly Season Challenge for 2008. I challenge you to create a collective noun for a group of quilters. A group of lions is a PRIDE of lions, and a group of geese is a GAGGLE of geese. I hope you get the idea. Go to my newsletter for a full definition of a collective noun.
So I'll start the ball rolling on this one
My suggestion for a group of quilters is
A PATCH OF QUILTERS
Go for it girls, see how well you can do.
Cheerio for now
Okay I am going to give it a go.
A string of thread
This is going to take some thought. My first instinct is to say:
a quiver of quilters
but I may need to think more on the subject.
Happy Thanksgiving, All.
This is hard! Hmm maybe
A Crazy Quilter
Ok it's my turn again.
What about.......
A Quackle of Quilters
(cross between a quack and a cackle)
Cheerio
Well I think we are just going to have to start calling ourselves a bunch of Quackles. Hilarious. LOL.
How about A Gaggle of Quilters
Diane
Diane, welcome to the forum, we hope that you enjoy your stay!
Rosie
I have put way too much thought into this. When the brain was working too hard I came up with things like 'an assembly of fabric assemblers' or 'a block of blanket builders', but how awful. 'A gather of stitchers' wasn't so bad, but then I heard about a 'brace of dentists', 'a balance of accountants' or 'a stack of librarians' so I decided that my collective noun contribution would be:
'a stitch of quilters'.
We
stitch the blocks, then we
stitch the quilting, then we come to this forum to get a
stitch in the side from laughing. There are some great ideas here.
Both of my sides hurt!!! Yeah me too. Thinking way to hard. Need to try to let it go and see what happens. But then I forget. Can't have anything to do with age. LOL
I don't even know if the ones I put up are right, but it is fun. Okay, how about this one.
Eye of a Needle
I did the best I could, so I think I will try to write another limmerick. This takes more wit than I have.
I'll keep reading through.
Good for you, Donna Rae, for continuing to try. I'm having Thanksgiving tomorrow, (I know a couple days late) and I have to get my turkey ready, so I'll check back in a few.
Keep up the good work.
Well if I'd read thoroughly I'd have seen Judy mentioned a gaggle. I am Diane and I live in LA and have been quilting about 18 months. I love it, but I can truly say I'm slower than molasses. Am working on my second top. I have 4 grown kids and 4 grands ages 20, 17, 10, 8 with a boy on the way next April. I'm so excited.
So how about a swarm of quilters or a murder of quilters. Well maybe not a murder, some might take that the wrong way.
Diane in LA
Ok you guys, you obviously need some DIRECTION here!! LOL
It needs to be a xxxxxxxxxx of quilters. The quilters is not negotiable, but the xxxxxxxxx is.
Does that help? You crack me up lovely quilters, don't we have fun even when we live so far from each other.
Cheerio for now
Ohhhhhhh, we have to use quilters, not anything related. Tsk, now I realy have to think. LOL. I was haveing a hard enough time. Well I will come up with something tomorrow. (-:
Hi all, and Welcome Diane of the heavenly clouds.
I hope it is all right with everyone if I make a list of what we have so far, either exact, or only partically suggested. I know it will help me to get started again, and hopefully it will help others. So, the list as I see it:
assembly of quilters
beehive of quilters (I took some liberties from quilting bee.)
block of quilters
gaggle of quilters
gather of quilters
murder of quilters (Diane withdraw this immediately, I think)
patch of quilters
quackle of quilters
quiver of quilters (I didn't like this even as I offered it)
stash of quilters
stitch of quilters
string of quilters
swarm of quilters
thread of quilters
I am drawn between three of the above as my favorite but I think we can do better.
In honor of the part of quilting that causes me the most trouble, a possible collective noun might be:
a frame of quilters
Hi quilting friends,
I wanted to join the limericks, but did't have an original thought to share. However, I loved all of yours!!
After searching google for collective nouns, I came up with these:
A charm of quilters
A chain of quilters
A swarm of quilters (at a fabric sale)
A skein of quilters
A wedge of quilters - flying in a "V: as in flying geese.
So...how did I do?
Awesome! But why can't we just call the last one
A flock of quilters?
I like the a flock of quilters better...thanks!!
This 'entry' is probably not worth the effort, but how about
A sewing of quilters?
Not bad, but I am still stuck on quackle of quilters! Who came up with that? It is stuck in my head like a tune that won't go away. Geez, LOL
I think that was me. A Quackle is a cross between a QUACK AND A GAGGLE, I guess because that's the noise you hear when more than five quilters gather ..... they make a quackle!!
Love all the suggestions that have flowed in this second challenge. You all deserve another 24 hours in your week to quilt!! (If I could arrange it, I would!!).
Cheerio for now
I think what I deserve is a sewing room so I can keep this mess out of my dining room. I may just treat myself. Then, I'll have a quackle over for hot chocolate. L&LOL.
Hi and thanks for the welcome. If I spent as much time quilting as I do on this computer, I might set the world on fire, lol.
I thought of Covey of Quilters.
Diane
OK, how about A Pod of Patchers.
I like it.... and that starts another thread.
Let's try for a ............ of patchers.
What can you guys come up with?

I thing you should do exactly that except have a bunch of quackles over. (-:

OOPS I GOOFED... A Quackle is a group. Whew, have to keep this straight. LOL
No Donna Rae I love the use of quackle as a way to describe a quilter, it's very funny. (Hi, my names Mary and this is my friend Linda, and she's a quackle). Love it.LOL
