When I was a visiting Pagan Chaplain at various prisons in my area I found that the inmates could relate much more to standards rather than morals. Lots of them were aware of the cultural and religious background to a moral, whereas a self-imposed standard was far more powerful for them and much harder to break.
I do not call myself an atheist but do find it hard to believe the things that religions teach.
