For those of you using twitter, do you use the actual Twitter website to read your tweets, or do you use a program like Twirl, Tweetdeck, Snitter or Twitterific (for Mac users) to do your messages?
I'll start.
I started using Snitter but migrated over to Tweetdeck, as it has the ability to make categories of different types of Followers.
My DH uses Twirl, which seems basic enough.
I know a lot of people just go right to the Twitter website to read things, and others use their cell phones/Blackberries.
What do you use?
I just downloaded Twitbin (a plugin for Firefox). I'll let you know how I like it after a few days...
I'm plain Twitter myself, but am interested in twitter apps. I know there are several "out there"--what do you use and why? How is it helpful?
I've been using Twitbin (a Firefox add-on) for a few days now. It's very basic, but I like it.
Tweetdeck is the best way to keep things organized - i put things into different categories. Also I changed the black background color to something prettier, so that helped.
I use tweetdeck also - it's very helpful for me

I just go to Twitter and read it on the site.
Okay, off to download Tweetdeck. Thanks, tweeps!
I go to the website, but mainly because I haven't taken the time to checkout the options and how to incorporate them into my things.
I just started using my twitter account again just the other week, but I've had the account for a while.
Jilly, when you talk about organizing it into different categories, what exactly happens?
i use twirhl, cos I love the little chatter box that comes up on my screen when my writer friends across the world are working too!
Distracting tho.....
I like the 'shorten url' option too.
I'm a big fan of twhirl. In general I'd suggest using any of the Adobe AIR apps for twittering or a FireFox plugin. Keeping a page open just to twitter just isn't going to work for me.
Bonus to using an app is that you get a 'ding' sound when someone sends you an @reply or direct message.
I'd also like to remind people to go into your twitter "settings -> notices" and make sure that you have "show me all @replies" checked. With that setting you can get @replies from people even though your not following them. It makes it easy for people to get in touch with you.
Jason, you can set up your Tweetdeck page to show different categories of those you follow. it's super convenient to be able, at a glance, to see the tweets of your friends vs the news outlets and various pro bloggers.
Polygeek, that is an excellent point about allowing @replies from people you are not currently following.
I've been @ed from people i was not following, and ended up following them after they took the time to yack at me personally. I like people who talk to ME and not just the world at large.
Thx Jilly,
Do I get my tweetdeck on twitter's site or elsewhere?
If elsewhere, do you have a link?
Ya, know, shame on me. I should have added the link - sorry! Here it is:
