I haven't posted here for a long time, been very busy...well, my 21 yr. old who is high functioning GRADUATED- he took the GED exam & not only passed, BUT WITH A HIGH SCORE....in the last year he interned w/ audiologists at a local veterans hospital & w/ an attorney's office who does real estate closings. He, on his own, got a p/t job in a deli in the neighborhood. We went to a Volunteer Lunch in May, a Prom in May, the Autism Walk in April (Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY)...he just started getting services thru Mental Health (case management) & VESID (employment help)
He also met a girl in the drs. office who lives in the same town who is also developmentally delayed & got her phone # & email address. We shall see what happens ;0)

when he was 4 years old, people told me all kinds of [censored]...like he is living in his own world, he'll never be a talker, bla bla bla.....well it all turned out to be [censored]!!!

To all you young Moms who have newly diagnosed kids....they grow up...if I had to look back & do it over...I'd relax more, take care of myself more, not argue over moot points & focus on acceptance and services NOT A CURE...and take everything w/ a grain of salt, cuz after all , my son surpassed EVERYTHING I WAS TOLD!
