Please don't be afraid to ask questions or make suggestions. If you have been wondering about a certain method of rugmaking or even just want to know about it, just in case you might want to try it, please post it here. I will be glad to explain it. <img src="/images/graemlins/easter.gif" alt="" />
Yes I have a question about a polyster rug that is made with 2in squares and sewed in a row and then attached to a backing. I have seen them down south and at the Iowa Information Center on 35. How are they made?
Thanks
Welcome, that is called a Penwiper rug. Does the sewn pieces resemble a sort of point ? I have never made one myself but you get your squares and lay them on your first row so that they resemble a diamond, fold the right and left points so that they meet in the middle and then sew across. On the next row you place the squares in between the first rows squares and again you fold and sew making sure that you don't sew over anything of your first row. Does that make sense ?
I hate to sound dumb but are the squares folded in half sewed together in a long string then sewed on the backing? Do you start in the middle or the outside of the backing? I would really love one of these in the camper cause they will last a lifetime and hold up so nicely.
Thanks
You would sew it directly to the backing, I did find a picture

http://www.netw.com/~rafter4/exchange2.html to Ruths wonderful sewn shag, there is an email for her. I can email her for you or you can email her. There are two different ways to do it, one is called folded in , the other folded out.
