Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone uses the free online trackers like Fitness Pal or Sparkpeople. If you do, do you use all of the features or just some. Do you track on your computer or on your smart phone? Are there other better (free) apps that anyone uses?

I track on free apps on my iPhone. They seem to have a lot of trackers out there but all do basically the same thing.
I use several apps on my android phone and love having them at my fingertip.I use one for tracking recipes even. Depending on your device just go to the app store for your device and look up the apps you want using a keyword.

I don't have any paid apps all mine are the free versions and are very helpful. Like Daisybun said, most of them do the same thing, so I don't see any reason to get the paid versions before trying out some free ones.

It's a lot better to use the phone apps because it's right there at your fingertips at all times.

Great! smile Can you recommend any good ones?
I have an android and I use and love Noom Weight Loss, the free version. There is an upgraded version. It is really neat and gives you daily tasks and includes calories and nutrients.

Another one that is also free is Calorie Counter, My fitness Pal. You can search for them via your phone. I have an Android. When I search for Calorie Counter, MyFitnessPal shows up first.

They honestly almost all work the same. So, I would do a search on your phone for the apps and just try out the free versions and try the ones with the highest ratings first.

For recipes just look up the type of recipe app you want. I am a vegan so I have four vegan recipe apps on my phone which I use when I'm in the grocery store. Very convenient.

Great advice Stephanie! I think it's great to tell people about apps that may be available. Being new to Smartphones (a litte over a year), I'm still learning and didn't even know they existed until recently. I know a lot of co-workers who just got their first smartphones.

My daughter has so many interesting apps on anything from books to music. I'm always asking her for suggestions.

That would definitely an article I would like to read one day (hint ;)). What are some of the free apps available and a comparison between them? I've discovered that while basically they may be alike, there are some with more features then others.
I actually have that article idea in the pipeline. smile So I'll let you know when I have it. I'm supposed to love technology. I have a degree in Interactive Technology... but um, I get sick of it after awhile LOL. But I do love my smartphone apps. Recently, I realized I could create a grocery list on my computer, and open it on my phone too. That's nice. (I am sure there is a better way but I just email the list to myself and check the email on my phone).

Hi Dianne - thanks for this post, which I read yesterday. I had no idea about these sites but I signed up to myfitnesspal.com.

Its very easy to use, almost intuitive.

I like it that it has so many branded products in its database and also you can enter in the calories of your own recipes. Also that when you enter in exercise it increases the number of calories you can have that day to meet your targets.

After entering 5 meals the only thing I don't about like it is that its metric option isn't fully working.

Peter,
My Fitness Pal is great! I tend to use that one now more than Sparkpeople. Sparkpeople is great for a lot of interaction, but Fitness Pal is much easier from my phone.

I did have a look at Sparkpeople but it didn't seem as easy as Myfitnesspal.

Up till now I have been using a spreadsheet to track calories but the tracker also brings in exercise and your weight.

Thanks for the heads up.

Calorie count and Myfitness Pal are best trackers, many of us are using myfitness pal. I do have tracker in my iPhone with which I can detect my calorie intake, bmi rate, bms rate and tracking my cardio exercises like running.
