Have you tried to access the 1940 federal census? It became available yesterday, April 2.

Try stevemorse.org and click on US Census on the left for information on how to access the census and then the link to try it.

There have been quite a number of webinars on how to use the census as well and FamilySearch.org is looking for indexers.

I scrolled through several pages of the county where my Mom lived. The census is becoming more available day by day although the index is not yet available throughout. Volunteer indexers are transcribing the information onto spreadsheets to make it available. There have been a lot of webinars talking about the first week of the census and some of the problems researchers were experiencing. Everyday researchers found working with the census easier as the problems were resolved.

I finally found my paternal grandparents yesterday. Found my husband's side in TN fairly easy, but harder on my line. I have found some client's side, and one in particular was great find. Was never sure if there was a marriage, and there they were married.

This is cool and it works. I followed the instructions and it took me just a few clicks to figure out where my grandparents were in NYC.

Did you have an ancestor living in New York, NY at the time of the 1940 census? If so, you need to visit the following link:
