I'm planning a trip to Oahu at the end of May. They say average temps are about 80 degrees. The place I'm thinking about staying does not have A/C. Do you really need it? I've heard so much about the trades, but that will be an 80-degree breeze blowing in.

Also, any recommendations for local hangouts and places to visit that aren't really tourist-y? Haven't been to North Shore in 25+ years so I'm sure it's changed a lot. Very interested in hiking, biking, waterfalls, scenery.

So I had posted this question in planning for our trip to Oahu but never got any advise. Well, I'm here in Oahu now and thought I'd pass on my experience. We are staying in a house right on the ocean. It does not have air conditioning. With the doors and windows open all day and night it does cool down, however there are times with no ocean breeze that it's almost uncomfortably warm. I do think that any house not right on the ocean, or not designed to take advantage of trades, would be very warm in summer without A/C, especially if it's something you are used to.
