Even though I am not Christian, Easter has been a part of my life for quite some time because I am a singer. And I am usually singing in a church choir or as a soloist during the weeks of Passover and Easter. While I participate in the Easter ritual through music, an even larger marker for the holiday for me was the Easter meals-- the breakfast, the brunches/lunches, the dinners.

Food is a central part of all Hindu rituals. Even if there isn't meal planned, prasad is the food offering made to the deity that is then blessed and redistributed among the worshippers. I always associate food with ritual.

What food traditions associated with ritual do you remember or exist in your family or community tradition?
