I think some of this has to do with exactly what you're taking. There are three grades of fish oil, for one. The highest is pharmaceutical grade and is reported to not have the same kinds (actually, any) of those side effects since most of those effects are issues of purity.

If you Google this, there are plenty of articles.

Pharma grade is more expensive, but well worth it. In fact, we give it to our 4yo in high doses and have seen nothing but good all around.

Another thing to do is keep your fish oil capsule in the freezer. You take it out and take it. This keeps from getting the fishy taste or breath.. which you can get even with the pharm grade.

I have done this for a couple years now and never have the fish breath or taste

I wonder what would be considered a large dose?

I have given my girls flavored cod liver oil since they were small and take one capsule per day myself. My husband had to stop because he said that he felt it was making his stomach burn and my smallest girl has had the same problem with her dose of cod liver oil unless she takes it with a full meal.

what about trying the gel caps of fish oil instead. Try using my frozen technique and see if it improves the stomach burn problem. Also make sure you take it with a full glass of water (8 oz) or something like a glass of juice. If you take it on a completely empty stomach it may cause some stomach discomfort no matter what you do

I definitely feel fish oil is VERY important to good health. I try to get mine naturally - we eat a fair amount of fresh fish in our diet. It's a balance of course to eat a lot of fish but to choose types that are low in mercury. It's always something smile

But yes definitely get high quality fish oil for the best results.

Has anyone here tried adding krill oil to their fish oil regimen? Dr. Mercola recommends it, but it seems pretty expensive and some don't think it's as good as fish or flax oil.

I haven't tried krill oil - I imagine that fish oil should be good enough for most of us smile

I certainly hope so, because the krill oil costs three times what fish oil capsules cost. I'm a huge believer in the benefits of fish oil and am so thankful for how it helped to eliminate inflammation in my joints.

you can get all the advantages of fish oil and more - balanced Omegas and lots more - from chia seeds which are a recently re-discovered ancient Aztec food that is the healthiest food known on the the planet. Just google chia seeds to read lots of studies and info on chia but beware the highcost brand name versions. (link removed)
