My 10 year old Paint mare tested positive for Lyme Disease. She showed symptoms of irritability which we thought was just a heat, but it got much worse when she became so sensitive that she could not be groomed and wanted to bite when touched.

It will cost me nearly $1,000 to have her treated. The vet has my mare on a week of I.V. antibiotics followed by a month of oral antibiotics. So far my horse is very tolerant of the daily I.V. The prognosis is very good, but of course each horse's response to treatment can be different.

I am so worried about her. Has anyone been through this with their horse?
Even though the initial test results were positive for Lyme Disease, the results from Cornell University showed no antibodies for Lyme. So my mare does not have that but may have had another type of bacterial infection that is carried by ticks.

The antibiotics helped for a while, but now she is sensitive once again around the belly. She is eating fine. Now we are looking into the possibility that she has ulcers.

I have not been through this with a horse, but I know of some people that have. They used some products from Dynamite marketing with good success. Let me know if you want to know more. Sorry to hear about your horse.
