A very warm welcome to the Self Development Forum !

Yawns and yawning are involuntary actions that all humans exhibit. This self development article suggests some reasons for why you yawn and discusses what yawning has shown to be linked with, such as how empathetic you are!

See: Yawns What Yawning Says About You

* What makes you yawn?
* Do you experience contagious yawning?
* Do you think yawns are related to empathy?

I'd love to receive your feedback so do add your comments, queries, thoughts, etc., to this Forum thread. I look forward to hearing from you!
I was yawning just reading about contagious yawning. That could mean I'm Highly Empathetic or it could just mean it's bedtime. Thanks for an interesting article!

Hi Mona, that made me smile. But it's true - just reading about yawning can make you yawn so I guess you are indeed "highly empathetic." (JOY)

I seem to yawn a lot these days. That too at work! I sleep properly every day and yet I'm unable to block these yawns. Before reading this article, while reading it and after reading it - All I do is Yawn! Am I a psycho-empathetic? Or should I consult someone?

Hi Jodiemt, some people yawn a lot more than others for all sorts of reasons. If you're worried about your yawning, have a chat with your doctor. What happens if you breathe slowly and deeply...do you still yawn as much? (JOY)

hmmm. I yawn when I am tired, stressed, or bored. Human yawns often occur when one first wakes up, when we are short of oxygen, and so on. One highly regarded school of thought says that all yawning results from the brain's intent to receive more oxygen to process an internal conflict that occurs between two alternative or conflicting behaviors. For example, one might yawn when he or she wants to stay up, but also wants to sleep or wants to get up and enjoy the day, but also wants to lie in bed.
