I absolutely LOVE Eminem
Posted By: IceQueen Re: EMINEM - 01/31/04 05:01 AM
I think he's just awesomely talented, and that makes his character flaws (if any) completely irrelevant. I just listen to him all the time when I'm stressed.

Every time I write a rhyme,
These critics think it's a crime
To tell them what's on my mind.

I just heard his mother still lives in the Eight Mile trailer park. What's up with that?
Posted By: IceQueen Re: EMINEM - 01/31/04 07:43 PM
He seriously dislikes his mother, for being an alcoholic and wishing that it was him, not his brother who was dead (according to "Cleaning out my closet").

I heard her car was carjacked just recently, in 8 Mile.

Yes, I recall hearing that too, and I am aware that she is a major derelict. But, I'd be interested to hear his full answer to this question. I'm not saying whether his decision is right or wrong, it's his money. But, it's just so unbelievably cold. It really is. What would drive a person to that extreme? Would he ever be willing to get her help, or rehab? And if he disagrees so strongly with her for saying such horrible things, then why does he say such horrible things to Kim and women in general, publicly no less? I think he's a complete misogynist. I'd like to enjoy his music, because I think he has talent. But I can't get past his meanness. Apparently, neither can he.
Posted By: IceQueen Re: EMINEM - 01/31/04 10:33 PM
I don't think he's misogynist. I am pretty sure he's misanthropic.

And I think it'd detract from his art if he weren't.
Posted By: myhands Re: EMINEM - 02/01/04 04:38 PM
Perhaps he does hate everybody, but it is women that he chooses to attack, which makes him nothing but a coward in my book. I refuse to respect a "man" who verbally and or physically abuses women. I don't care how rich and famous he is. I just can't accept that.
Posted By: IceQueen Re: EMINEM - 02/01/04 06:37 PM
No, he doesn't choose to attack just women, he attacks men as well. His targets consistently seem to be:
- cheating women
- bad parents (both genders)
- people who work in the entertainment industry
- stupid fans (both genders)

What's his excuse for attacking Mariah Carey, and the mother of his child? I don't see him target individual men this way. And what's his excuse for promoting violence against women in his music? There's no excuse for his conduct. The man disgusts me. He's a coward.

> What's his excuse for attacking Mariah Carey
Don't know, didn't hear, what did he say? Didn't they used to date?

> and the mother of his child?
I think she cheated on him or something

> I don't see him target individual men this way.
Versace
his father
(that's just off the top of my head)

> what's his excuse for promoting violence against women in his music?
if he's promoting violence in his music, it's not ONLY against women.

IQ, this is not something I will ever be swayed on. There's no excuse for a man to be emotionally or physically abusive to women. Ever. I don't really follow your argument, which appears to be that you're defending him on the basis that he is abusive to men as well. That's an entirely different issue. Two wrongs don't make a right. I cannot support his behavior. If a person clubbed baby seals, would it be okay if he clubbed dogs as well? It just really doesn't make a lot of sense. And, as this is intended to be a safe place for women to post, I don't think that this is an appropriate place to protect male abusers. There are plenty of forums which support people like Eminem. But this is a sanctuary for women, where we supposedly don't have to hear about the virtues of a man teaches hatred of women. If you like him, that's your option. But I don't. And I sincerely would hope that in a place such as this, that my viewpoint would simply be respected.

Why are you limiting it by gender? How about the other way around?

No. It was my response to "I don't see him target individual men this way," which goes against your calling him a coward for attacking women only.

All I'm saying is that he is not biased against *women*, he is biased against *people*.

While I respect everyone's opinion on Eminem, I thought I'd just post mine here

1. I didn't know that Eminem "attacked" Mariah Carey in any way, but in one of Mariah's songs on her latest album ("Clown"..I think is the name of the song)..Mariah verbally disses Eminem. So the "attacking" is going both ways in this situation as far as I'm concerned.

2. Eminem raps about things that have happened in his life. The mother of his child is a drug abuser, criminal and adultress..and his mother was never really a mother to him at all. So while we have our rights to express our opinions in our own way, regardless of the topic..so does Eminem. And he chooses to do it through music..which is beautiful and artistic.

I think Eminem is very talented and I'm a woman. I take nothing he says about women personally! People either love him or hate him..To each their own

PurpleNiki, I really liked your post and think that you brought up some very good points.

And myhands, you bring up some very good points as well. I don't think that anyone is trying to disrespect your views, and you are very accurate about Eminem's disregard of the women figures in his life.

I am an Eminem. Mostly I enjoy his music because I think he is talented and like the composition of his songs. Does anyone know who really comes up with the beat? Someone was telling me they thought it was Dre since he produces Eminem's albulms (recently bought the 8 mile soundtrack from sears online -- it's good!)

While I don't think that Eminem is the most admirable person in the world, I do respect that he is honest about what he thinks. There are many actors/musicians, etc out there that are glorified and have very big character flaws. I know Eminem's biases, so I don't take his words to heart.

I guess now is not the time to insult those of you swinging from M&M's sack.....BUT the IceQueen said it all. He is a gate way artist that brought hip/hop to a whole different genre. He is good but not the best by far.

he has his right to say what he wants to just like anyone ele does. You can't take what he says seriously. He is just playing to make people angry. When they get angry, he feeds off of it. Also, he is very emotional. He feels so strong towards Kim, his mother, his father, Ronnie, etc. Also, on his new album, he talks about walking away from the rap game before it gets too carried away (Like Toy Soldiers). Ja Rule said something about Hailee in one of his songs and this [censored] Eminem off. I agree with him. If two rappers are beefing, fine. But leave the kids out of it. Overall, I think Em is great because he isn't afraid to say what he feels, and his rhymes are great.
