Thank you smile

Good Day!

Well, there is Kwanzaa, which begins the day after Christmas. There is Music Month in June. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Also, Juneteenth (The African American Independence Day) which very few people observe anymore. But a few people do. Of course there is Women's History Month in March. The holiday of Jonkonnu (Jonkonnu is a festival with roots in Caribbean, West African, and English traditions, originally celebrated in the U.S. by African Americans in the 19th century.
Traditionally, revelers celebrated by singing and dancing to the beats of a drum called a gumba box. The dancers paraded from house to house and collected coinsusually from white slave-owners. At the end of the performance, a costumed ragmanthe leader of the revelersshook hands with the slaves' master.

Hope that helps! smile

YES, I know about "Jonkonnu" (lol) - I am from the Caribbean - Jamaica. The masks scare me to death..... Never participated in any of these celebrations, but remember as a child (now 52) wondering what all those weird looking people were doing.

Do you think you will be talking about any of these celebrations?

Would love to hear about Kwanzaa - don't know anything about that one.

Thanks smile

smile Most Certainly. I just learned about "Jonkonnu" recently. It was interesting.

I do have an article on Kwanzaa, but will definitely revisit and do a bit bore for those who may have missed it.

Have a great Thanksgiving!
