"Val", a portrait of the actor Val Kilmer, had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival today. Kilmer, who now has difficulty speaking due to throat cancer and a tracheotomy, has been documenting his life on videotape since he was a child. Those tapes, which include behind-the-scenes footage from his stage and screen career, form the bulk of the documentary. "Val" will stream on Amazon Prime beginning August 6th. Here's a link to the trailer. Val - Official Trailer
Update: "Val" recently won two Critics' Choice Documentary Awards - Best Narration (by Val Kilmer and his son Jack) and Best Historical or Biographical Documentary. I'm not a particular fan of Val Kilmer's movies except "Heat" and "Thunderheart" (my review is on the Drama Movies site). This documentary is exceptional, though. The scene where Kilmer is signing autographs and has to stop to vomit is especially poignant. I would highly recommend "Val" whether or not you have followed Kilmer's career.
