Movie theaters in the city of New York are free to open their doors to patrons once more. Screenwriter Walter Bernstein, who died in January at the age of 101, was born in Brooklyn and had a lifelong love affair with movies. In his excellent memoir, "Inside Out", Bernstein explains his movie-going mania in the following terms: "The movies for me were comfort and escape, refuge and inspiration. As always, that same nameless weight dropped off when I handed the usher my ticket...I entered a world in which I was finally safe. It did not matter how crowded or dirty or airless a movie theater was, I could breathe freely there."
