Black History Month - Hollywood - 02/16/21 09:32 PM
PBS is screening the documentary "Hollywood's Architect: The Paul R. Williams Story" (2019) this month, as part of their Black History programming. Williams began his career in the late 1920s and was the first African-American member of the American Institute of Architects. He built homes for many Hollywood celebrities but only became close friends with one - Danny Thomas. When Thomas told Williams about his vision for a hospital that would treat children free of charge, Williams designed and donated his plans for the first St. Jude Children's Hospital. The documentary is narrated by Courtney B. Vance.
