At the American Film Market this week, Ron Howard was pitching his new Luciano Pavarotti documentary. Howard is apparently hoping to build on the success of his previous music documentary, "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week". Pavarotti's widow and family will be cooperating with the filmmaker on his new doc. Howard said, Pavarotti "had charm, charisma, he chose to live his life in a state of appreciation and excitement and joy about what the world had to offer. That’s very inspiring. He also had a tremendous commitment and selflessness which is worth celebrating. At a time like this, today, that is a story worth reminding people about.”
CBS Films is acquiring the rights to "Pavarotti" and plans to release the documentary in theaters later this year. "Pavarotti" is written by Mark Monroe, who also wrote Ron Howard's documentary on the Beatles.
Update: CBS Films released the first official trailer for "Pavarotti" today. My favorite clip shows Pavarotti experiencing nerves before a performance. "I go to die", he says as he walks toward the stage. It helps to know that even the musical geniuses freak out before facing an audience. Pavarotti Official Trailer The documentary will be released on June 7th.
