Joseph is not mentioned in many Bible verses, but what we are told about him proves that he is one of the most godly men in the Bible. I just did a study of him.

I very much enjoyed your article on Joseph. I've always thought he was one of the more interesting people in the Bible, and that he doesn't get enough attention. Certainly, God would have been very selective in choosing the man who would help raise His son! We know he has to have been special. It certainly wasn't an easy task to raise God's child--talk about responsibility.

Thank you Terrie, I'm glad you liked it.
Just think of the first time Joseph realized Jesus had more wisdom than he.

I'm not sure which is worse-a child who really does know it all or having a sibling who is really as perfect as your parents think he is. If Jesus had siblings, they must have found him to be a challenge once or twice--try living up to that big brother!

Good article!

That reminds me, did you know they recently found a tomb that had the inscription "James, the brother of Jesus" and they are positive it was Christ's brother. I thought that was so cool!

Yes. I heard that and thought it was great when they could prove it's age. It gives me goose bumps.

I just read a really good book called A Case For Christ. It had some really good historical info in it!

It was written by a man who was a staunch atheist. He interviewed tons of people and one of them said that archeology has never EVER disproven any part of the bible!

Talk about goose bumbs!

I highly recommend it! I finished it in one day, I was so engrossed! LOL!

He interviewed some of the same people A&E uses for their informational history programs.

I really enjoyed reading about the historical stuff. I had heard some fo it before, but never really delved into it.

No, it doesn't say that anywhere. It is Catholic tradition that Mary remained a virgin.
The Bible does speak of Jesus' brothers and sisters.

in about 12 minutes, there is a program on british tv claiming mary was 12 and raped by a roman soldier. they claim to have good evidence though in my opinion it is hard to proove/disproove something that happened 2000 years ago.

Yesterday, I was listening to Chuck Swindoll on the radio(like I do every morning on the way to taking my son to school, my poor son) and he was talking about Joseph. I found the question Mr. Swindoll raised very interesting. It was, "If Joseph was such a Godly man, why did an angel have to appear to him to convince him that the baby Mary was carrying was from God?" The conversation went on to show me that Joseph was just a normal man. When his fiance left suddenly for 3 months and didn't tell him where she was going or why, he was concerned. The scuttlebutt in the small town was that Mary was expecting and Joseph must have heard about it. He must have been a little mad at her. Then when she came back and told him that she was going to have a baby, Joseph planned to have her sent away quietly. Probably cuz he was mad and disappointed in her. So God sent an angel to him to convince him to take Mary as his wife anyway and that the baby was from God.

I think that speaks volumes about the nature of Joseph...he was a normal guy who was OBEDIENT (sp) to God. It must have taken alot of guts to do what he did and marry her anyway in spite of all the talk of the towns people. And then to not have touched her intimatly the whole 6 months that followed must have caused some tension in their early marriage. But Joseph hung in there and BELIEVED God. He is a great role model for young men today.

Joseph was a godly man because he believed God and was obedient.
That should be our source of truth. Aren't we lucky we don't have to rely on British or US TV !

Yes, Joseph was a Godly man. When he could have had her stoned he planned to have her quietly sent away. He would have had the right to be angry and want revenge. He didn't choose that. Then when he had an angelic visit he listened.
