Long Live Rock n Roll - 04/07/12 09:40 PM
I update this from time to time. When I first wrote it, rock n roll was 20, and Lady Gaga was not yet born. I included Shania because people said she was not country. Reeling rocking is Chuck Berry. Slipping sliding is Little Richard.
Everybody said that it would last a year or two
When Elvis has faded, we'd be into something new
They were wrong, I've seen it proven, many years have flown
We're all proud to see our music come into its own
California to St. Louie, London, Liverpool
Everywhere it's all the same, and everybody's cool
Reeling rocking, slipping sliding, we've been through it all
Looking back across the years, we've really had a ball
Long Live Rock n Roll, that feeling in your soul
Keeps you from getting old, that good old rock n roll
Long Live Rock n roll, come on, let's play some more
Keeps me from getting old, that good old rock n roll
The 60s had The Beatles, and they taught us how to live
Told us what they knew of love and showed us how to give
They're still doing fine although they may have settled down
We still have their music, and those CDs spin around
Three generations moving, grooving, singing with the band
60 years of changes, and it's still in great demand
Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison too
I just hope I live to see it all before it's through
Long Live Rock n Roll, that feeling in your soul
Keeps you from getting old, that good old rock n roll
Long Live Rock n Roll, come on, let's play some more
Keeps me from getting old, that good old rock n roll
Disco dancing with The Bee Gees, I caught that fever too
4 young Swedes called ABBA won it all with Waterloo
Prince, Shania, Lady Gaga making videos
Now we've come full circle, that's how the story goes
Everybody said that it would last a year or two
When Elvis has faded, we'd be into something new
But if you're in Cleveland and you'd like to see their names
Come on down to One Key Plaza to the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame
Long Live Rock n Roll, that feeling in your soul
Keeps you from getting old, that good old rock n roll
Long Live Rock n Roll, come on, let's play some more
Keeps me from getting old, that good old rock n roll
