We had hawks nesting very close to our house this summer. One of the "babies" (there were 2) flew by the house yesterday around lunch. It startled me a bit that I recognized the squawk. But once I thought about it, it wasn't that startling. I had listened to and watched these birds and their parents all summer. I guess when you're that close over a period of time, you learn the slight variations.

I so hope we have another nest this Spring. They are loud, but beautiful. It seems an honor to have these regal birds safely nesting right behind our house, in the middle of our little town.
