Today our diocese celebrated the conclusion of our 200th anniversary. The Mass was special as it was offered to Mary. We once had a big discussion in this forum about the role of Mary in our lives. Catholics do not worship Mary but reverence her and ask her to pray for us. She is special, very special; she is the Mother of Jesus. Just like we ask friends to keep us in their prayers or ask them to pray for someone or a special intention, we ask to Mary to pray for us. Father mentioned where in the Bible does Jesus designate Mary as the Mother of the Church. He said it was in John at the Crucifixion when Jesus said to the beloved disciple, behold your Mother and to Mary He said behold your son. We are the disciples today; we are the Church, the Body of Christ. She is our Mother.
