The winners of the 12th Greenwich Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition were presented online this year. There were two socially distanced presenters. Winners included close-up Andromeda, an ethereal aurora, colorful clouds, and a sad warning of what could be the end of astrophotography.

The National Maritime Museum website shows all the award winners and short-listed photographs in each category. For the best effect, be sure to look at them on the biggest screen you have.

New this year is a People's Choice Award. There's a selection of entries - some not winners - that you can look through and vote for your favorite. I'd love to know what you chose!

I've been on a number of northern lights trips to Norway and have had many wonderful experiences travelling up the coast. I haven't been to the village of Hamnøy, but have seen similar sights. So this beautiful picture of Hamnøy Lights by Andreas Ettl brought back memories. It's where my People's Choice vote went.

"The photographer waited patiently in his car for the light show to begin, and on the first sign of the aurora borealis in the sky, he set up his camera at this famous overlook of the idyllic fishing village, Hamnøy."
