The news is full of the disease called coronavirus (COVID-2019) and despite drastic measures, it has spread to other countries. It is worrisome to watch and I would like to take this opportunity to remind people of a medical secret we all have at our disposal. I call it the Semmelweis Method. This simple and effective treatment only requires soap and water, and the habit of washing our hands thoroughly.
Dr. Semmelweis was an advocate for handwashing. Had his colleagues headed his advice for implementing this simple method after he made the connection between puerperal fever and mothers and children dying in the maternity wards during the 19th Century, thousands of lives would have been spared.
Handwashing is a simple yet effective method to prevent the spread of illness. Cough and sneeze into your elbow, and not your hands.
Wash, wash, wash your hands.
Thank you.
