The Motion Picture Academy is once again facing backlash for failing to nominate a female in the Best Director Oscar category. "Little Women" director Greta Gerwig and "The Farewell" director Lulu Wang were thought to be contenders.

I think the Academy could begin to right the situation by awarding posthumous Honorary Oscars to women film pioneers (Douglas Fairbanks received one in 1940 for his contribution to the development of film). Director Alice Guy Blache and director/editor/mentor Dorothy Arzner would certainly be worthy of recognition.
