Mona, I received a trivia question in my email today - how long is a day on Venus? I was floored when I read the answer.

LEARN MORE
One of the coolest things about studying other planets is finding out that things we don’t even think about on Earth, like the length of days and years varying wildly from place to place. Venus is a great example, given how crazy its day/night cycle is compared to ours. Venus rotates at 4 mph, which pales in comparison to Earth’s 1,040 mph, and gives it a day that lasts 243 days, with a tiny little bit left over. That means most people can jog faster than Venus rotates (which begs the question, can you run back in time on Venus?). It’s also spinning in the opposite direction of Earth, so the sun rises in the west and sets in the east.

Thanks for this, Angie. We consider our days as the standard ones, but you're right about how complicated things can get elsewhere. And Venus is a good example of the complications! (Mercury is another.)

More about Venus:

Some people think that Venus could be habitable. And perhaps you might daydream about being closer to the Sun when the long winter nights come, and the temperature drops. After all, "Earth's twin" should be a nice place, shouldn't it? Let's talk about that.

Who wants to go to Venus ?
