2018 was the 10th anniversary of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year awards. The Royal Observatory Greenwich first hosted them in 2009. But this year the event was in the National Maritime Museum, and the 2018 images - plus some great past winners - are on exhibition in a brand new gallery. Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2018

I found a copy of the poster for the first competition in 2009 of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year. The exhibition was housed in the building near the old Royal Observatory where a new planetarium and learning center had been built. (Also a rather nice cafe!)

What an amazing set of photos Mona, thanks for the link.
And "Transport the Soul", overall winner of People and Space, is an incredibly moving and contemplative image. How small we are in the scheme of things. Simply observers...

Yes, Francine, I agree. The "Transport the Soul" image is fantastic on many levels. The 10th Anniversary exhibition also has a scattering of photos from previous years. And it included one of my favorites from many years ago, "Photon Worshippers".

Francine, that's how you learn stuff! This one is more of a challenge. It's from ten years ago, taken by the Runner-up in the Young Photographer competition in 2009. No Dogs on Beach. Still makes me laugh.

That is a fun one...took a flash of inspiration I should think. Wonder where it was, have never seen a nimbus that clearly in "real life", not the right conditions in Europe probably.
