Astronomy Day has been an annual celebration of astronomy for over forty years of "bringing astronomy to the people." See if you can find an event near you. If not, why not create your own event by skywatching with a friend - our Absolute Beginners guides can help you out.

Astronomy Day - Bringing Astronomy to the People

This year's spring Astronomy Day is on April 21st.

From Steve Cariddi:
Quote
This week, thousands of stargazers will be “bringing astronomy to the people” during semi-annual Astronomy Day events coordinated by the Astronomical League, an umbrella organization of over 240 U.S. amateur astronomy clubs. Science museums, astronomy clubs, planetaria, libraries, and nature centers will host special events worldwide—at decidedly non-astronomical sites like shopping malls, parks, and downtown centers—to acquaint people with local astronomical resources and facilities. This is a great chance to meet and learn from talented amateur astronomers, test the view through different telescopes, find out how to observe the Sun safely during the day, or attend your first star party at night.

Check out the Astronomy League's Astronomy Day events page. These are events notified to the League, there are likely to be many more.

Sky & Telescope has links to some of the Astronomy Day events in Canada and the United States.

And you might be able to find an astronomy organization near you, using this page.
