BellaOnline's Tatting Editor brought something interesting to my attention. This from The LangaList AOL is at it again. This time, it's reading *inside* its members' emails, and preemptively blocking any messages that contain links to sites that AOL doesn't want you to see.

Hello Paula. I was just passing through and rread this post. I hope you don't mind if I put in my 2 cents worth. AOL and almost anything that AOL has to do with is probably worse than a virus. At times AOL will put programs on your computer that go into every file. If you put ANYTHING from AOL on your machine you will probably have to clean all your hard drives and try to make a clean restore. I have a friend who tried AOL once and he almost had to scrap his computer. STAY WELL CLEAR OF ANYTHING AOL. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I agree. I have a laptop from which I was able to remove all traces of AOL after I did a complete wipe of the computer.
I call AOL 'The Internet with Training Wheels.'

Good for you Paula, you sure are lucky to get rid of all that AOL junk. I tried cleaning all traces of AOL from my desktop with mixed success. Anything that could be cleaned was cleaned; there were some files that couldn't be cleaned so I just zipped them. I heard that it was almost impossible to get rid of everything AOL because some programs could crash. I am almost convinced that I did a half-way decent job of putting AOL were it can't do any harm to my machine. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> It wouldn't be so bad if AOL was "internet on training wheels" but it puts spyware and other trash into your machine that can turn that nice computer into a very expensive paper-weight. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Grrrr, spyware & adware are aggravating. My oldest son was home at Christmas and immediately downloaded Kazaa. <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
It comes with it's own variety of cr@p.

I down-loaded Spybot Search and Destroy, the program does a very good job and its free. I got the download from the Kim Komando web site. If you have a question to ask or a problem with your computer this woman"s web site is the place to visit. I also subscribe to the daily tip and the weekend newsletter. Yesterday I downloaded a free Pcassa 2 photo album. I don't flog other peoples web sites but this particular web site is woth its weight in Gold or disc space.

You're right, Kim is very good. I listen to her show every Saturday. I learned about the print selection function from her show. The amount of ink and paper I've saved from that one tip is incredible.

I was for a long time (since almost the first day i got internet on may 2000) with Yahoo and when I finally was fed up with them one Summer (2010-2013) I started changing my email address often and one of the best place I have tried since then is AOL Canada but starting soon after it has become impossible in Canada to enter AOL. I asked an American friend of mine who are with them to write them about this (im not a member now so cannot reach them) but she realised that only free customers can reach them and she is a paying customer but people like her cannot! Both of those things are insane! I was thinking of coming back with Yahoo maybe one day but saw a few months ago that them too refuse to Canadians to enter the main American page, in both cases you can access all the American pages but not the main ones ! MSN and Google are not like that at least, did not like hotmail when I tried it and never tried gmail.
