In 2014 Google did an elaborate Perseids doodle complete with music for the August meteor shower. It only appeared in the USA, but you can see it here, along with information about the shower and the designing of the doodle.

From SpaceWeather.com today:
Quote:
PERSEID FIREBALLS: The Perseid meteor shower, which peaks this weekend (Aug. 12-13), produces more fireballs than any other known annual meteor shower. (Fireballs are meteors brighter than Jupiter or Venus.) This characteristic of the Perseids is important because in 2017 the shower peaks under the light of a bright gibbous Moon. Perseid fireballs should be visible in spite of lunar interference, producing a pleasing display for anyone outdoors before sunrise on Saturday and Sunday.

I hope you have better weather than I'm getting! Even the Moon was just some vague light behind the clouds.

Apparently Britain was treated to a Perseid show last night, but I didn't see anything moving except a satellite. It doesn't help that the only place I can avoid the street lamp has a restricted sky view!

But here's a nice image captured by Brain Gibson in Glasgow, Scotland a meteor streaking through the Plough (Bg Dipper).

Oh, look at this beautiful sky. Such a contrast to my cloudy sky and strategically placed streetlamps. It's from Tamas Ladanyi (TWAN) and shows a Perseid meteor and the Milky Way. It was taken from the Dalmatian coast in Croatia, looking south and west across the Adriatic Sea.

There are still a few stray Perseids to be seen - if, unlike me, you have a clear night sky! But here's a gorgeous multi-exposure skyscape taken on the night of the Perseids peak.

Perseids over the Pyrénées was taken from the Col d'Aubisque in the French Pyrenees National Park just before the bright Moon rose.
