Follow a steep road into California's Berkeley hills to find the Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS). It's the public science center of the University of California Berkeley, and delights visitors of all ages with the wonders of science. A bonus is a spectacular panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay.

If you want to have a go at making your own planisphere, here is the Lawrence Hall of Science Star Wheels page. Choose one suitable for the place where you're observing and follow the instructions. You can download the templates for printing.

Then go outside on a clear night and try it out! (You can also buy ready-made ones in a number of places, if you're not happy with your DIY one.)

If you're in the Bay Area with children, the Lawrence Hall of Science is definitely worth a visit. If you want a planetarium show, here is the page that tells you what's on at the planetarium.

An exhibit hall at the Lawrence Hall of Science and the entrance to the planetarium. Lots of interesting things to entertain inquiring minds and busy hands.
