I just read an article that said being around cranky people in a work environment can make you grouchy or cranky too.

Do you think that's true?

Has it ever happened to you?

LOL Sharon, I have ALLOWED "cranky" folks to change my mood but at age 52, I have finally learn't to either remove myself from their environment or ignore. You did not mention if you did - we would love to hear about you too? Great subject smile

I think cranky people can make you cranky only if you let them. I used to let myself be influenced by other people's moods but not anymore. My state of mind is important to me and I safe guard it from other people's bad thoughts:)

Cranky people absolutely can make you cranky if you are not careful. When I worked 9 to 5 I learned to steer clear of perpetually cranky. Of course, there were times I was the cranky one, so would use this time to file or do something that took me away from everyone and put me in a well-deserved spot far away from those in good spirits.

I believe that it depends who they are to you. If the loved one is cranky, moreover- your life partner/boyfriend/girlfriend, that is contagious. Being around irritable people in the work environment is not nice, however they would not spoil the mood, in a long run - it would be one reason to change the job because who wants to be in negative energy? However positive or indifferent one is, anyway it is the best to choose the company wisely where one can be joyful, can learn, grow and feel inspired.

That is such a great point Dace. If it's somebody who is close to you it can affect you but coworkers not so much and if they are that cranky all the time then maybe it's best to switch work environment. Like you said who wants to be in negative energy all the time.
