How much reality is too much in your romance novels? Too much gore? Bad language? Situations ripped from the headlines?

For me, the one thing I absolutely can't read about is something happening to a child. My tolerance to the level of violence or blood and guts varies depending on the author and how well she handles it in regard to the rest of the story.

Fiction is the opposite of reality so I do not like a lot in what I read and watch. Plus I love bad language, gore sex and violence so when there are some or a lot in what I read and watch I enjoy it. I have never told myself this is not true and this could never happen while reading and watching something fictional because again fiction is the opposite of reality.
