Recently I wrote a review on Virginia , a psychological thriller for teens and young adults.

As I was reading the book and then writing the review, I struggled with the content of this novel and the age group to whom the author was writing.

It certainly was beyond what I ever read as a teen. I know times have changed from the early sixties (my teenage years) but when should parents draw the line as to what their teen is reading - if they should at all.

What are your thoughts?

I read the review, and the book indeed sounds interesting, though, as you point out, not like something I would be thinking to recommend to my YA-age daughters. The themes sound too dark and heavy, but then, so are most of the Harry Potter books. I know how much I loved Lois Duncan's books when I was that age, and those were definitely a bit creepy/supernatural/religious. Maybe I am just reacting as an over-protective mom!

I may not even have written the depth of what was going on in the review. The story had to do with an immaculate conception type of situation, and whether what she was experiencing was real or not.

Very heavy, but I'm sure there are teens who could handle the topic. Just not sure I would let my daughters, at that age.

I have many psychological issues and none are related to anything fictional I have either watched or read. If one day I have a child he or she will not have anything censored, I will also explain to them the difference between real and fiction but that was never explained to me and I have always known the difference. Kids are not stupid. The only things that badly effect kids is reality not fiction.
