I was on a cruise recently - a great opportunity to read David Mitchell's The Bone Clocks. I'd read Cloud Atlas several years ago, which I thought would be hard to beat. But he just keeps on with superb, intricate, intriguing writing. Wow.
I've just finished reading Kazuo Ishiguro's The Buried Giant. (I found it in the book exchange.) Such a strange book, one that sneaks into your head and keeps demanding attention. A bit odd maybe to keep remembering a book that's about forgetting.

Mona, Cloud Atlas is on my to-read list! I haven't seen the movie either. It sounds like you are reading some interesting books

Deanna, I also haven't seen the movie Cloud Atlas. The critics were certainly divided on it - an overall 66% from Rotten Tomatoes.
"Some say it’s an awe-inspiring work of visual and emotional daring, while others say it’s muddled, pretentious, and overlong. It’s a series of interconnected vignettes that follows a variety of characters . . . across centuries, as seemingly small actions and events have monumental repercussions. The pundits agree that Cloud Atlas is a singular film, but while some are thrilled by its monumental scope and big ideas, others say it’s too undisciplined and disjointed to realize its outsized aims."
I can certainly believe that the complexity of the book doesn't lend itself to cinematic representation.

It means telling a story by writing the plot and characters into lists. For example:
Five Reasons It Wasn't A Good Day 1. I hated my hair because it doesn't look like Mindy's. 2. I wish I had red hair with tight curls. 3. Blah straight brown hair that frizzles more than twirls is a pain. 4. If I knew where Mindy was, I would ask her how she gets her curls so tight. 5. I can't ask her. No one knows where she is any more.
That kind of thing. I found a book last summer at our library that was written in lists and I was intrigued.
