Francine, thanks for this - I'm traveling and hadn't picked up on this discovery. But, of course, it's a mere 380,000 light years away, one of our galactic neighbors. Our nearest large neighbor is the Andromeda galaxy (M31) which is two and a half million light years away.
Yes, these big numbers would be dizzying even if each unit weren't equal to nearly 10 trillion kilometers. Eek!
