Do you have a pre-teen or new teen that has asked to venture into the world of social media? If you gave them the answer of yes, don’t wait for an invitation to join them. Just do it. As unpopular as this may be to your teen, it's insurance they’ll have support with this new mode of communication.

Great article Chel!

I remember when my daughter first got on Facebook, she'd get up early every morning with me, and we'd play Farmville! Those were some good times smile

My girls signed up for Instagram a couple of years ago when they got phones, and myself, just didn't have time for that. Until my older daughter told me one of my twins was posting like 100 times a day almost - silly stuff like pics of her cat, short videos of her cat - all innocent - but you never know! So I installed it and used it a few times - just to make my presence known...lol I haven't used it since, but I do look...they don't know that!

I joined Instagram because my son is on there! So yup, I'm on there sometimes, but don't really follow people, because when I go on there, it's just to check to see what he's been posting. Of course, now that he's in college, I'm not so worried.

Allyson and Deanna:

Thank you for your comments! I was very much like Allyson when I brought home my first iPhone. Even thinking I had bought a device that was overloaded with "stuff". Yet, I quickly became addicted to a small little something called "Angry Birds". Then, I found a photo app, and a writing app, and I could take and send pictures to friends. OH LOOKY! I can get Facebook. Then, I needed an iPad! It amazes me what I can do, and frustrates me as what I can't learn without asking for help. It seems like I can't catch up with everything that is out there. Oh dear, it seems as if I'm social media-ing again!!!!

It was great to hear both of your stories about following your teens.
