With the warm season is upon us, everyone is eager to get outside planting their garden. But what if you are one of those who are limited for space or don't have a back yard? The solution is quite simple, have an indoor garden where you can enjoy your herbs year round!

Dear Bettina,

When it is summer I relish fresh vegetables and herbs~ I do my herbs on my patio in pots~ It is wonderful to have freshness at your fingertips.

This fall I want to grow herbs on my countertop so I am now researching a lighted system but I am hoping for suggestions if you know of any.

thanks!

Nice article, Bettina.

I don't have a sunny window indoors appropriate to having a mini herb garden. I usually have trouble with growing herbs outside in pots too. I don't know if it is a watering issue or something else because there is a lot of sun. My basil never gets a nice dark green or grows well. I love eating herbs but I have terrible luck trying to grow them, and that goes for parsley, sage, or whatever. I've purchased nice organic soil too and that did not help. I wanted to stay away from chemical feeding.

Dear Mary,

Thank you kindly for your comments. I do believe that there is a special light you can get, even Walmart has a 24" indoor grow light fixture.

Hope that helps,
Bettina

Thank you Debbie (as always). One thing with Basil is you can give it too much "goodness". The less good stuff in the soil the better, which might be your problem.

Also, get a moisture stick to make sure you are giving it the right amount of water.

Unfortunately, I have a cat that will eat every plant in my house, so I am unable to grow ANYTHING indoors. I could strangle Gabrielle, but instead opt to grow outdoors so I can keep some sanity!

I do have enough space in the backyard as well. But I always consider to plant medicinal herbs in the inside garden. It’s because most medicinal plants purifies the air inside. I usually plant only medicinal herbs as I need them to prepare herbal blends. If i need anymore herbal blends then i will consult horton spice Mills.

I'm considering indoor medicinal plants. Problem is I have cats and every time I have any indoor plants they end up nibbling on them. What would be some good plants that won't overdose them?
