Have any nurses had trouble finding a different job simply because your acute care experience isn't recent? I have been in nursing for over 14 years. For the past 4 years I've worked pediatric private care. The rest of my work has been in hospital Peds-med-surg, supplemented by skilled nursing. I feel I've contributed to my current job as much as can and want to move on. After placing many applications, the results are the same. No one is interested unless my hospital experience has been within the last 2 years. These same employers will except new grads though. I'm baffled. How am I supposed to acquire the needed experience if no one will hire me in those positions? Any advice.....

Hi Kris! Sorry your having trouble getting your foot back in the door of a hospital. I too am a nurse and work in large hospital however I have not seen that to be an issue here. It does baffle me when some facilities will hire a new grad and tell others they want more recent experience. I think some of that probably has to do with money. An experienced nurse they have to pay a higher wage. Hang in there and be persistent something will turn up!
