NEW CAR VS OLD FLOWERS - NO CONTEST

The potted plants were in the way
of where the carport shoulda been.
I had them carted off today.
Not a single one still to be seen.

So tired of rose and daffodil
and pansies prim and neat,
as I swallow the bitter pill
of parking on the street.

My new car is sleeker and faster.
Sound: quad. Upholstery: leather.
Farewell to basil, thyme and aster.
Adieu at last to daisies and heather.

Go for a drive, forget about the lily,
Vroom down the road, Mr. & Mrs. Cool,
Babe, wait a minute, don't be silly.
Ouch! Stop! Put that down! It's just an APRIL FOOL!!!

I started reading it with a frown, already mumbling about how dry many souls are out there and if I were KING of the world what I would do to his new car for instance ... but by the end I was smiling and thanking heavens for April Fool's day!

You are so right - there is just no contest. Still, there also has to be an argument for finding a parking spot that is safe and protective. Just not the garden paleez.

This is a garden shed with a garden on top. Perhaps the same principle would work for a garage!

What a good picture this is - such a clear message to all of what is possible. I say what a good picture because it could be that people passing would not notice the garden on top.

I think this person or anyone who has done this (or something similar) needs to put up this or any picture all over the place to get the idea out there - garden centres, library notice boards, school project boards etc etc and so on.

I think the idea would certainly work for a garage anyway, regardless of whether or not it is used as a carport or storage or outer room.

I remember seeing some pictures that Susan (Meditation Editor) put up of her home and exactly this - a garden on her roof.

The extra caveat of course has to be waterproofing the area and ensuring it can take the weight of the soil and the plants.

Great idea - I am now going to go around and see if I can find a flat-topped garage to tell the people about what might be possible. Roof veggies ... would taste just as good!
