Join in people - thanks to LanceB we can start and see how far we get with our verse game for garden produce.
Ogden Nash (his family gave their name to Nashville) was born on my birthday lucky man - or was it that I was born on his? Anyway he was born 19 August 1902 and died May 1971. He wote many books of poetry and is well known for his brief nonsensical and easy rhyming poetry as well as other writing.
Remember in another post I mentioned his 'parsely is gharsley' well, that was a typical Ogden Nash and here is another to do with food that he wrote ...
Celery
Celery, raw Develops the jaw, But celery, stewed, Is more quietly chewed.
Now on another post LanceB came up with one about mint so let's see what you can write. Try to emulate Ogden in any way you can, but use a subject that pertains to container gardening and off you go!
Here is my first effort -
Strawberries
Strawberries and cream Make tennis a dream. But hitting the net means a cup you'll not get!
Cheers now

Be careful what you wish for, Zesty Lestie.
Snailing in Idaho
There once was a green-thumbed lad from Idaho. Wow could he make things grow! You'd think he would relish the state of the potato, Or even a cherry of a tomato. Rather, he'd prefer to slowly eschew on an escargot.- Ogden Shulman

A Menagerie of Roses
A kindly gentleman caller was he, As he would nurturingly say to she, To me, your name is lovely Blue Roses, For in my eyes,as all should see, you have outgrown the pleurosis.- Ogden Tennessee Shulman

No pears please
I wouldn't dare eat a prickly pear. It has a sharp spine and goes poorly with wine.

Courtship requires at least some effort
The indolent swain eyed Jane in vain. No rhymes, no ring, no chocolates to bring – not even a flower chain. For he was too lazy to pick a daisy.

Chard
I wish I could wax poetic about chard As it verdantly grows in a container in our yard But alas I am no bard As rhyming is so hard However, I can say that consuming much will retard My becoming a tub of lard
