The cooler winter season is the perfect time to get out and enjoy some walks in the sunshine, wherever you happen to be in Florida. There are boardwalks, beaches, and nature trails all over the state offering great places to exercise and walk off the Christmas bloat. Here are 7 suggestions to start you off...

The Sanford Riverwalk is nice, but awfully short. I've walked it three times and am going out again today.

I love the trails at the Spring Hammock Preserve, also in Sanford, on the bottom edge of lake Jessup. Great swampy terrain, giant cypress trees, lots of birding, and long elevated boardwalk trails.

I did some short hiking at Kelly Park (Wekiva), walked along the pretty sections of the Cross Seminole Trail, and will be checking out trails at Lake Jessup Preserve soon.

I've heard walking in the Econ is pretty good.

All the walking here is pretty flat!

Hey Jilly! You have mentioned some walks and trails I did not know about, so I have noted your ideas for MY future walks!

I had a home in The Villages for 10 years and found many great state parks (Blue Spring), historic homes (DeBary) and places to walk so you may find more ideas on my Florida Page under the tab "Central Florida and The Villages".

Happy hiking!

I discovered yesterday that there are miles of nice firm sand walking along Clearwater Beach, on the gulf.

Today we're heading back to the Spring Hammock Preserve, which really is a lovely place to get a few miles in. There's lots of side trails there, but eventually everything links up. So while it seems like one could get lost, there's really no way to do that if you stay on the trails.
