I think all grocery stores should pass their discarded food to the local pantries if it is still edible. It just makes sense and eliminates waste. Too much food still winds up in the trash, which is a darn shame when others can use it.

Here is information from the Freegan website on the 1996 Good Samaritan Food Donation Act. With these laws, there is no reason for a grocer or other food-related establishment to not donate to food pantries, soup kitchens and other organizations to help out the hungry.
