Oh my goodness, it has!

I'm so glad to see you. I've had some set backs myself and just ((hugs)) from afar.
Your question/book really is a loaded one. You're so right - How do we NOT get tricked again?
It's starts with common sense, first off...actually foremost!!
From there, really, understanding there is always a little bit of the "enemy" within, whether we want to acknowledge this or not. By that I mean the superficial or Low-self. Maybe it's a vested interest in a business, gender, relationship, race or what have you.
If there's a part, something inside that
Separates, that's entirely the opposite of where we want to be.
As far as leaders go? I don't know names or who people are, unless someone just pushes it up in my face, but I know this.
Most leaders, if you look, don't live among the common folk. Their interests are more self-involved. They;ll have business interests, power and money no matter what side of the table they're on.
The little people, the self-starters, etc. there are more of us than there are of them. What we need to protect ourselves from is hostility. As a group, as a loving whole, we can do more than any one individual, telling us how we should live, ever could.
But, if we indulge, in fear, anger and division, we are less powerful as that whole, with love or just as Human beings being used - the best part of ourselves, against that whole...
